Then I misunderstood, I guess... Why would it be more expensive to produce it in the US, then? I thought one of the reasons for making the movie "abroad" was to get some subsidies from other countries "if you film it here", kind of.

The US are expensive. You can build bigger sets for the same money in a country in eastern Europe.
