There's the tool and then there's how you use it. We're all still learning how to live with rapidly changing tech, but it sounds like your kid tried to pass off someone (something) else's work as their own. Cold and impersonal is a problem too, but this situation touches on ethical concepts like fraud and deception by omission - not to make a big deal out of a kid's fan letter :) but seems like an opportunity to teach a moral lesson too.
