kinda crazy how many companies are looking for engineers lately, feels like tech is heating up again. you ever feel like there's too much choice, or is it more about finding one that's actually a good fit?
- leftcenterright 1y agoI think it is more about finding a "perfect" fit, from the last hiring thread there was a job for which I thought I was a good fit except that I was lacking some prior experience in a specific domain i.e. anti-fraud, and that alone was the basis for not pursuing it further for the company. Also this time, I see companies hiring "security engineers" with "Strong proficiency in Go or Scala". It is not like they are willing to offer much higher salaries for people who are both security engineers and full-stack software develpers, they just want it for the same market avg. salary ranges.
- monksy 1y agoWait you're seeing companies looking for Scala engineers? I haven't seen any places advertising scala positions here in a few months.

- kassner 1y agoI look at the hiring threads regularly and there is a significant portion of jobs here that repeat forever. If in this economy a company is 6 months into the resume-acquisition phase for a Fullstack position, they are not hiring.
- Kanishka345 1y agoYeah, I am leaning towards keeping a list of those names so I can filter past them faster. I wish there was a way to just filter them out by default.
- jcadam 1y agoI simply can't get interviews now (I've had two so far over the last 6 weeks). A few years ago I would be getting absolutely slammed with interview requests to the point I'd have to be selective. Now, I'll talk to anyone with a job. I've never seen the job market for engineers this bad. I was unemployed in 2008; this is worse.
