Without in any way minimizing the naked corruption and incompetence of Trump and his administration... come on. We had Nixon and Reagan, the former started the "War on Drugs" and the latter gutted the US mental health infrastructure. Just those two acts alone have probably led to more suffering, death, and needless horror than anything Trump has or will ever do. We had presidents who invaded Vietnam, who bombed Laos and Cambodia, who got almost 60,000 Americans and countless Vietnamese killed.
We have had worse, that doesn't mean that Trump isn't terrible and has no business in public life, but there's a point at which hyperbole becomes absurd.
- baseballdork 1y agoHindsight is 20/20. Let's see how the erosion of the foundations of the United States works out over the next 60 years. Frankly, just having an anti-vax as secretary of HHS will likely kill more than all the American deaths in Vietnam.
- EA-3167 1y agoYou have a point, we will have to wait and see, but my point is that we've had criminal, terrible, even catastrophic presidencies before: Trump is not the first and if we aren't honest with ourselves, he won't be the last.
- sundaeofshock 1y agoThe Trump Administration is destroying HHS and destroying pretty much all medical research. There will be millions who will needlessly die. Research on ailments such as cancer and Alzheimer’s will be set back decades. It will take generations to recover from this wanton destruction. Honestly, RFK and Trump are perpetrators of one of the most evil acts ever by a US administration.
