because everyone approaches their to-do tools differently depending on their personality styles, visual emphasis etc etc. I think a lot of it comes from the problem that most people cannot figure out how to use email is a productive way. Not that it's a problem with email, just that they get overwhelmed and hope that a To-Do app can help them.
