With respect, calling Trump "the cheato" is just more identity politics that is helping no one. The guy is a monster but it's hard to take posts like yours seriously. I think we can keep a higher standard of discussion here on HN than other parts of the internet and focus on policy and law, not idpol.
- johnea 2y agoI can appreciate the sentiment of this criticism, and my motive is to engage in actual conversation, not trollbaiting. But, sorry, I'm just not going to type his name. And the fact is, he's a cheater, and a liar. This might be called identity politics or partisan, but I consider it an accurate statement of objectively factual information. With the 100s of thousands of voters purged from voter roles in the US in 2024, and the shit storm of fake whining leading to Jan 6, this guy is a cheater, and a liar, and a prime example of what happens when a shit talking reality TV entitled brat-child from a NYC slumlord family is elected president. I feel he should have been convicted of treason for his coup plot of Jan 6. Again, my reply is not a criticism or denial of your rebuke. I understand the encouragement to use more neutral tone, but in this case I also feel my idiom is factually accurate and conveys the reality of the moment more so that literal proper nouns.
- soulofmischief 2y agoI also appreciate your thoughtful reply. I certainly am not out to police anyone's speech, just thought I'd give my perspective. I see things like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nicknames_used_by_Donald_Trump https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nicknames_used_by_Dona... and it personally feels like stooping to his level when also using such nicknames for political opponents. This is of course just a difference in opinion, and I understand your perspective as well. :)
