Very nice post, which rings true. I had similar difficulties learning my second language after a couple of years just using Perl. I must've made a serious effort at over a dozen languages over a period of several months, and while I can get by in most of these, it was only when I got into Scheme/Racket recently that I felt like I'd found another language that I could really connect with. Luckily, I'm not a full-time programmer, so I'm in the enviable position of being able to pick and choose which languages I use, but I imagine things are much more frustrating for coders who don't have a choice.
