You can't just replace science with Silicon Valley
- BLKNSLVR 1y agoJust another thread in the already heavy sweater of worry that Trump is knitting over the US.
- riehwvfbk 1y agoBut not all science is actually producing anything of value. Most universities aren't Harvard. A lot of labs do very obvious, very incremental work. They jump on the bandwagon du jour for grant writing and figure out a way to get the most papers/citation per grad student. Grad students themselves are mostly immigrants, and they are mostly there not for the love of science but because it's a good way to eventually get US work authorization.
- ashoeafoot 1y agoscience also moved from a start-up like "director" approach that allowed for result based allocation to great potential candidates by individuals to a "cooperate " process based approach which seems incapable of producing the break through field "fracking" advances humanity yearns for. Which is what humanity.. which depends on these advances rejects.
