The Constitution protects us from the whims of the majority.
- mjburgess 1y agoImportant to note this isnt a majority: 30% of eligible voters chose the president; and even of those, hardly any are very engaged with his current policies and behaivour. It's important not to so quickly cede the democractic ground here -- this isnt a democractic movement. It's a 49% election of a president, with 30% of the eligble voters, who collectively did not vote for the constitution to be suspended. They voted for a president, an office which exists by and within the framework of that constitution. There was no referendum on whether the constitution should be amended to allow for effectively unlimited presidental power.
