This process began long before AI was a consumer thing. For example, I’ve long preferred text messages over phone or video calls. I think a lot of it has to do with the attention economy. Our attentions are so occupied by social media and we are so accustomed to its rapid feedback and endless stream of novelty that we get frustrated and annoyed by the slow speed of communication with other people. So often I find my attention wandering while someone slowly explains something to me and they will often notice and be offended or hurt by it. These interactions make relationships difficult to maintain and I don’t really know what to do about it!
