It also didn't hurt that a certain European science superpower started purging academics based on ideology, said academics being more than welcome in the USA. Wait a minute...
- koakuma-chan 1y agoI'm pretty sure the US is currently pushing for merit-based admission.
- lawn 1y agoI'm pretty sure you need to start looking at what they're doing (selecting for obedience over competence) than what they're saying (DEI is the root of all problems).
- asacrowflies 1y agoYou'd have to be a fool to believe that.
- koakuma-chan 1y agoRead third bullet point https://www.harvard.edu/research-funding/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2025/04/Letter-Sent-to-Harvard-2025-04-11.pdf https://www.harvard.edu/research-funding/wp-content/uploads/...
- Epa095 1y agoYes, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is very democratic, it says so in their name!
- timeon 1y agoNorth Korea is good example as there is absence of any Democracy. However boasting about Democracy, while having 2-party system, is also quite interesting.
- koakuma-chan 1y agoHaving the word democratic in your name is not the same as sending a letter to a university where one of the listed demands is merit-based admission.
- Epa095 1y agoThe point is that we know what this administration means by 'merrit based', it means to fire anyone who dissagres, particularly women and non-whites, while hirering grosely incompetent TV-people. The only 'merrit' is loyalty.
- koakuma-chan 1y ago"the University must adopt and implement merit-based hiring policies, and cease all preferences based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin throughout its hiring, promotion, compensation, and related practices among faculty, staff, and leadership"
- ryoshoe 1y ago"Every department or field found to lack viewpoint diversity must be reformed by hiring a critical mass of new faculty within that department or field who will provide viewpoint diversity; every teaching unit found to lack viewpoint diversity must be reformed by admitting a critical mass of students who will provide viewpoint diversity" "viewpoint diversity" isn't a guarantee of merit-based hiring policies
- ruszki 1y agoFifth bullet point contradicts it. Also, it’s not clear for me at all, what “viewpoint” means. Flat Earthers in geography departments? Or more Republicans? Or the same thing as DEI, since being black gives you different viewpoints?
- koakuma-chan 1y agoI think it refers to political viewpoint diversity.
- asacrowflies 1y agoYou'd have to be a fool to believe that.
