- WarOnPrivacy 2y agofinancial incentives for Greenlanders, including the possibility of .... an annual payment of about $10,000 per Greenlander. officials believe those costs could be offset by new revenue from the extraction of Greenland’s natural resources, which include rare earth minerals, copper, gold, uranium and oil. Reuters reports: The vision for Greenland ... could include a hub for artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, space launches, micro nuclear reactors and high-speed rail. The discussions reflect a longstanding Silicon Valley movement to establish low-regulation cities globally, including in the United States
- gibbitz 2y agoI heard lithium too. I assumed this was the reasoning with the tariff plans, but since that just turned out to be market manipulation by the president to cover all his legal fees, I assumed we would stop talking about Greenland...

- Hatrix 2y agoThey should try doing those things in the current 50 states first. High-speed rail to Alaska would be fun.

- mullingitover 2y agoThe crazy thing about this attempt to annex sovereign foreign territory is it's totally unnecessary. If the US wanted more bases on the island, it can already do that. There are existing treaties. The US unilaterally closed many of its bases there, it could simply reopen then at any time. If it wanted to extract natural resources it could just pay for permission to do that. Any of the other things it's claiming top lan there could also be done without annexing foreign territory. This is about normalizing territorial expansionism to launder Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
