I'm a London olympics volunteer. I took some time off work. (I contract so its not hard to do). Its fun and makes a change to normality. I think that what you really get out of it [apart from access to some of the events] is a change of scenery and a break from the routine by doing something 'different'. Plus we get special pink oyster cards (london transport) .
