Man pages are nice to read but a pain in the ass to write (unless you're using modern tools that convert markdown/etc to the manpage, which honestly, you should be doing.)
- shadowgovt 2y ago... at which point, one does wonder why we use man at all instead of markdown.
- lupusreal 2y agoConventions matter, manpages get indexed so you can access them easily with man readers. With raw markdown docs I have to go searching for the documentation myself.
- shadowgovt 2y agoTrue, but I don't think the gap on indexing Markdown docs is very large. In fact... man already supports two parsable languages for the pages themselves. It could, hypothetically, support three.
