This thread is yet another thing that makes me fear for the future of humanity. No, I don't use the hallucination machines to search, and I never will. I use search engines to search. I use the "make shit up" machine when I want shit made up. Modern voice models are great for IVR menus and other similar tasks. Image generation models have entirely taken over from clipart when I want a meaningless image to represent an idea. LLMs are even fun to make up bogus news articles, boilerplate text to fill a template, etc. They're not search engines though and they can't replace search engines. If I want to find real information I use a search engine to find primary sources containing the keywords I'm looking for, or well referenced secondary sources like Wikipedia which can lead me to primary sources.
