Calling CECOT a prison does a lot of heavy lifting. People are kept 20+ to a cell, without even basic amenities like running water or mattresses. The salvadoran government openly states that nobody will ever be released from the 'prison' [1]. These conditions are harsher than even the conditions nazis kept victims of the holocaust in. It is overtly a death camp, which the salvadoran government built as a backward way of getting rid of poor people by exterminating them rather than meaningful policy to improve the lives of it's citizens.
