Audiophiles are a niche manufactured market, not an elite group of super-hearers. Their existence is more of a result brand identity and bonding over a shared passion for spec purity than the natural result of their innate capabilities.
They love to show off their setups, but how many audiophiles do you know who post their wetware specs (ie- hearing test results)?
