Interesting problems and apps that try to change the world rarely intersect with things that have a high profit-per-effort ratio... Projects like this have a much higher probability of making a tidy profit and probably not much of a chance of making enough money to fund space travel. Nothing wrong with that. I personally don't like a lot of popular software (from FB apps to MySpace to Flash games), but engineering for the masses clearly works.
