Show HN: Helping My Friend with ADHD Eat Better
My friend with ADHD struggled with meals—forgotten groceries, decision fatigue, and too much takeout. I built a simple meal plan to help, and it evolved into Weekly Table Foods: a web app that organizes meals, generates grocery lists, and removes the overwhelm.
My best friend has ADHD, and one of his biggest struggles was eating properly. He would forget to buy groceries, get overwhelmed by meal choices, and default to ordering takeout. I started by making simple weekly meal plans for him, just as a way to help. But as I refined the system, I realized he wasn’t the only one facing this problem.
That’s how Weekly Table Foods was born—a web app designed to make meal planning easy and structured, especially for people who struggle with executive function. The project started small, but as I got feedback from others, I added features: a grocery list that updates automatically, meal variety for different dietary needs, and a simple, distraction-free UI.
It’s still evolving, and I’d love to hear what you think. If you've ever struggled with meal planning (or know someone who has).
- Belsonsan 2y agoOne of the biggest surprises in building this was realizing how much decision fatigue affects people with ADHD when it comes to food. The original plan was just a basic meal schedule, but my friend kept running into small obstacles—like forgetting ingredients or getting stuck in a loop of eating the same thing. So I kept tweaking it based on real feedback. Now, the app suggests meals while balancing variety, generates a grocery list, and keeps everything organized without overwhelming options. It’s still a work in progress, but seeing it actually help people makes the effort worth it. If you’ve ever tried to meal prep with ADHD, what’s been your biggest challenge?

- josefresco 2y agoChickpea and Spinach Curry lists 6 ingredients: chickpeas: 200 g spinach: 100 g coconut milk: 200 ml onion: 1 units garlic: 2 cloves cumin: 15 g However the video on "how to make" which appears to be just a YouTube search and not a specific video(?) shows the chef using more spices, and other ingredients not listed. Not a huge deal, but aligning the "how to make" with the ingredients would be key for me using tool like this. I'm already overwhelmed thinking about how to purchase the 4+ Indian spices recommended for this (very yummy looking) dish.
- Belsonsan 2y agoHey, thanks for the feedback! This is just a side project, so some things might not be perfectly aligned yet. Totally get how overwhelming it can be to buy a bunch of new spices for one recipe. We’ll take a look at improving the ingredient consistency, and maybe we can suggest some simpler alternatives too. Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts!
