I’m not saying this sounds like a pyramid scheme, but maybe, what’s the difference between the Hanson Scheme and a pyramid scheme? Also: I’m not strictly speaking religious, but there is something dystopian about moving from a moral-philosophical framework to a strictly economic one.

OTOH, if they were actually competent and honest in their economic approach - then they would have mentioned the too-many decades during which the costs of education, housing, and medical care have all been growing much faster than incomes, for the 99%. And maybe even suggested that that's a real problem. Conclusion: This is pretty much a program to be enacted by the 0.01%, for the benefit of the 1%. The 99% are left somewhere between "lip service", and "claims of their existence are exaggerated". And conveniently, "yet more of the pie for us" sounds far less dystopian to those at the top...

What we currently have is a pyramid scheme: massive transfers from the young to the old, with collapsing fertility, meaning the state's obligations (pensions etc) will inevitably lead to default. If birthrates don't recover, most 1rd world states are bankrupt in a few decades, perhaps sooner. The way this would not be a pyramid scheme is if it succeeds in halting fertility collapse. If.
