I think the issues with social
Media stem from getting information fast and being able to react to it fast. This, above all else, makes them bad for my brain. It inhibits my time to sit and consider things. Because it’s always there with more information for me to consume. I’m not sure I get anything out of a deluge of random information.
- verdverm 2y agoATProtocol (the thing Bluesky is building that changes the social media game) enables anyone to create custom feeds (algorithms) and moderation services. Since I switched to my own custom feeds, I spend far less time on social media. I have a bunch of little topic "boxes", ordered chronologically, and can get caught up quickly without distraction. https://atproto.com https://atproto.com
- hooverd 2y agoSo feeds and labels (moderation) are actually Bluesky primitives and not part of atproto. Which is fine. The core atproto primatives are identity through a DID, auth through OAuth, and commits through a personal data server. Everything is an abstraction on top of that.
- verdverm 2y agothere are moderation primitives in the `com.atproto` namespace. Any app that builds custom lexicon will need to do their own moderation, which means adding some semantics on top of those primitives. Content, and thus feeds, are app specific. One could also build a feed that draws on multiple app content, though would likely need a similar frontend that can render content from multiple apps (i.e. something like a browser / search / recommendation)
