- chongli 2y agoMy grandparents were born in the early 1900s in a rural area. They grew up on those farms with double-digit siblings and everyone pitched in to help make preserves in order to get through the winter. Their lifestyle was born of necessity, not choice. I doubt anyone but the upper class deliberately chose any particular lifestyle back then. Today I think a lot more people are getting in on this trend.
