- blindriver 2y agoI don't know the nature of what's going on in El Salvador on behalf of the US. But sending a non-gang member there among gang members seems reprehensible and they need to do better to ensure this doesn't happen. But I'm sure the people who live in the neighborhoods terrorized by those Venezuelan gangs are happy they are gone.
- Gigachad 2y ago> I don't know the nature of what's going on in El Salvador That’s the whole point of these off shore prisons. No one knows what goes on there so the media and courts can’t stop you doing whatever you want.

- kurthr 2y agoI really wanted to agree with your comment, but what I read looks like gibberish. There were 8 million "contacts" with migrants from 2021-2024. That's not a number of immigrants. It's bizarre to believe 3% of the population immigrated in that time. Total US population growth including ALL immigration is ~5 million over those years. Note that from 2017-2020 population growth including immigration was almost 6 million. Who's fault was that? It's also bizarre to cite a Venezuelan dictator's own made up crime statistics as support, but if you did then then crime fell most from 2017-2020. Remember that Fox News is self-admittedly primarily an entertainment channel, on par with the Daily Show comedy. https://www.statista.com/statistics/984669/homicide-rate-venezuela/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/984669/homicide-rate-ven... But the last point stands. I'd rather be a nation of laws and facts than autocratic criminality.

- freitasm 2y agoSo, what will be the follow-up? Will he be brought back home?
- Gigachad 2y agoProbably the same thing that happened to all those people the US incorrectly labeled as terrorists and sent to Guantanamo bay. They spend a few years getting raped, drugged and tortured and then they either die or get paid to shut up. And then the Americans will celebrate solving their made up problem.

- TrackerFF 2y agoWonder how long it will take until they start going after H1-B visa holders. They're already disappearing "undesirable" foreign students, so it can't be too long until they'll go after foreign workers.
- 650REDHAIR 2y agoHasn’t that already happened with a transplant Doctor and professor on the east coast?
- readthenotes1 2y agoIf I recall correctly the transplant doctor was sent back because she had gone to the Hezbollah leaders funeral, and the state department interpreted that as work for the organization.
- blindriver 2y agoIt's very hard to avoid the accusation that you endorse terrorist beliefs if you attend the funeral of the head of Hezbollah. It's hard to say you didn't know the implications of that. As a visa holder, all you need is the accusation for CBP to deny you entry.
- megous 2y agoWhat terrorist beliefs in particular?
- lupusreal 2y agoAmerican zionists, particularly in the Trump government, seem to think that anything other than complete loyalty to Israel is terrorism.
- megous 2y agoAnd spread the fear of having other thoughts like this, I guess: https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/climate-of-fear-montreal-doctor-says-nyu-cancelled-her-presentation/ https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/climate-of-fear-mont...
- IncreasePosts 2y ago"Alleges Family" seems like it should be in the headline. The mother jones article which is the source for the latintimes article uses the term "reportedly". It also includes an actual statement from an ICE officer: > Robert Cerna, an acting field office director for ICE’s removal operations branch, said the agency “did not simply rely on social media posts, photographs of the alien displaying gang-related hand gestures, or tattoos alone.”
- thatguymike 2y agoIf this was actually happening, what would you expect to see different? The reason we have due process is so that we don’t have to rely on second-hand reports to monitor the justice system. Get rid of due process and this is what we have.
- lupusreal 2y agoI am sure his other two tattoos are just as harmless, but why doesn't the article describe them? Telling me what one of the tattoos is but not the other two leaves me wondering if the article is trying to deceive me by omitting context. At the very least it is disrespectful to the reader for a journalist to only tell me the most sympathetic detail while presumably leaving out harmless but less emotive details, as though they think my tiny brain would be overloaded by that much detail.
- spit2wind 2y agoThe article is a based on another article. Mother Jones appears to have broken the story: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/03/trump-el-salvador-venezulea-deportation-prison-cecot-bukele/ https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/03/trump-el-salvad... Unfortunately, the article isn't well written (in my opinion) and it seems details of the other tattoos are not provided, although I may have missed it.
- financetechbro 2y agoFTA > The tattoo on Suárez’s neck is of a colibrí, a hummingbird. His wife said it is meant to symbolize “harmony and good energy.” She said his other tattoos, like a palm tree on his hand—an homage to Suárez’s late mother’s use of a Venezuelan expression about God being greater than a coconut tree—were similarly innocuous. Nevertheless, they may be why Suárez has been effectively disappeared by the US government into a Salvadoran mega-prison.
- Ferret7446 2y agoIsn't that a question for the Salvadoran government? The US is responsible for deporting illegal immigrants, and it is up to El Salvador whether the persons are criminals that need to be imprisoned in El Salvador or left to return home like a regular Salvadoran citizen.

- lmaoguy 2y agoWe should send all invaders to CECOT for a month. Makes for a great warning
- Ferret7446 2y agoI assume "undocumented American" is a disingenuous way of saying illegal immigrant, and the headline is a disingenuous way of saying that the man was deported for being here illegally and not for an "Autism Awareness Tattoo".
- kuschkufan 2y agoi mean, where else would you deport all illegals to if not the el salvador terrorism confinement center?

- ZeroTalent 2y agoAnd then the government wants us to play by its rules. Sure /s
