I've seen too many people think this move will be a total disaster.
I think it'll be a very bumpy ride but ultimately the team will succeed.
Besides "liberal sabotage" is a ready made retort for any mishaps along the way.
- Gud 2y agoIt will obviously be a disaster. Do you honestly believe it’s possible to rebuild ANY code base with millions of lines of code, to another language in MONTHS? It won’t be a ”bumpy road”. It will be a total failure.
- skc 2y agoI believe there is certainly some hubris involved in their projected timeline but I think at least part of that is due to a belief that we have much, much better tooling today than was available to teams that attempted this sort of thing back in the day.

- ttyprintk 2y agoI will loudly point out that the USAF contracted to replace COBOL with Java, attaining 90% reduction in TCO. It’s time for a friendly competition.
