- aurareturn 2y agoWashington must be clear with Beijing about the consequences of an assault on Taipei And why would Beijing take the threat seriously? Is Beijing not seeing what everyone is seeing? 1. Trump's ultimate goal is to reduce American involvement in foreign affairs, not increase. 2. The US desperately wants to settle with Russia. He wants to win the Nobel Peace Prize by ending the Russian/Ukrainian war. He doesn't want to start a war. 3. Trump is signaling that he wants to expand the US by absorbing Canada, Greenland, and even Panama. This gives the signal to China and other countries that it's ok to take over your neighbors now. Back to the 18th century land grab by superpowers. 4. By forcing TSMC to invest in fabs in the US, he's signaling that the US will have a small role, if any, in any China/Taiwan physical conflict.
