Non-caloric sweetener Sucralose stimulates greater hunger response
- BugsJustFindMe 2y agoThe title here appears to be blatantly false, per the abstract: > Sucralose versus water ... produces no difference in hunger ratings. It does not get more clear than that. The authors have also somehow still decided that increased hypothalamic blood flow is necessarily connected to hunger when their own finding says otherwise. Smh. Flagged.
- hedora 2y ago> These findings suggest that non-caloric sweeteners could affect key mechanisms in the hypothalamus responsible for appetite regulation Maybe read the whole abstract before flagging? Anyway, there’s a pile of evidence that non nutritional sweeteners lead to weight gain by screwing up appetite and hunger regulation, so the study’s conclusion isn’t particularly surprising.
- snvzz 2y agoHunger or not, they definitely cause headaches.
- BugsJustFindMe 2y agoThat's exactly the part I was talking about. I'll repeat myself here so you don't need to go up to the parent comment: > The authors have also somehow still decided that increased hypothalamic blood flow is necessarily connected to hunger when their own finding says otherwise. And now I will repeat the finding that says otherwise: > Sucralose versus water ... produces no difference in hunger ratings. I hope this helps. I also hope it makes you feel bad about missing the barn with your snipe. > Anyway, there’s a pile of evidence that non nutritional sweeteners lead to weight gain by screwing up appetite and hunger regulation, so the study’s conclusion isn’t particularly surprising. I cannot state strongly enough that their reported finding about hunger not increasing relative to water directly contradicts this explanation.
