This take is bordering on delusional. It's the annexation threats, trade war, internal collapse of law and order, border issues, and complete disrespect towards a close ally.

- pearle 2y agoI live in Canada and I have no idea what you are talking about with regards to the Canadian economy being in tatters. Perhaps you should be paying closer attention to the actual media. Your reality check comment is giving me hardcore "Fake News" vibes but I'll lave it at that.
- captnblob 2y agoThus far I’ve got one anecdote from someone who knows someone renting out cottages on airbnb in Ontario, and another person who lives in Canada and therefore knows exactly what is and isn’t going on. This sounds like HN alright. I didn’t expect this place to change.
- ipaddr 2y agoThis hn where someone will create a new account complain about hn and then tell everyone they are wrong because a friend of a friend said something. This place hasn't changed where we ignore facts and rely on third person accounts from an account who never posted before today. This wouldn't even fly on slashdot.
- thangalin 2y ago> It’s simple: Canadian economy is in tatters Source? Here are numbers from the Bank of Canada: "Governing Council members discussed recent data on economic activity and inflation in Canada. They noted that the Canadian economy entered 2025 in a solid position, with robust GDP growth and inflation close to 2% since last summer. "Canada’s GDP grew by 2.6% in the fourth quarter of 2024, led by surprisingly strong household spending, business investment and exports. Supported by past interest rate cuts, final domestic demand grew by a solid 5.6% in the fourth quarter, and business investment increased by 6.5%. Members also noted the significant upward revisions to GDP growth for the third quarter of last year, from 1% to 2.2%." https://www.bankofcanada.ca/2025/03/summary-governing-council-deliberations-fixed-announcement-date-march-12-2025/ https://www.bankofcanada.ca/2025/03/summary-governing-counci...
