I've been thinking about Anathem, and specifically that part of it - the Artificial Inanity programs, the bogons, the alluded-to war on the Ret - a lot ever since AI text generation really took off. It reminds me a bit of Watts' Maelstrom, too, although we're not there. (Yet. And hopefully never.)
