We badly need a commercial space industry in Europe. Arianespace is like Boeing, a government-propped organization that grew complacent, lazy and fat on guaranteed military launches and stopped caring about efficiency or engineering progress. It won't get any better without vigorous competition. The launch site in French Guiana is almost shockingly underused. A site at the equator - who could wish for more - and it had total grand of 1 launch in 2024. That is not a good use of taxpayer's money. BTW Ukraine has a significant space industry and made a lot of progress on missiles as well. It would be wise to co-opt their know-how.
