Remember: every comment on here is implicitly directed to dang, and every link is implicitly approved of by dang.
This is really his website at this point. The rules are mainly just his tools for shaping the content of discussions and submissions to his liking.
A decade ago it was different. I mean, he was still way overbearing and biased, but I don’t think it really had the same power-steering effect on the shapes of discussions as it does today. Over time, this is where we’ve come to.
- guerrilla 2y agoI happen to know first hand that the thread is not going quite to dang's liking at the moment. I'm hoping it improves, but people are having a hard time sticking to the technical and security aspects.
- jeffbee 2y agoThere are zero technical issues to discuss in this affair.

- dang 2y agoActually we specifically re-upped the thread and turned off all the software penalties (such as the flamewar detector) and user flags that were affecting its rank.
- guerrilla 2y agoThe opposite. I had him frontpage it to give it a chance.
- Jtsummers 2y agoIt's a day old submission with a lot of flame war material going on. That it's still on the front page suggests it's being propped up.
- Der_Einzige 2y agoThank you for proving that other HN members can call out bad HN policies and the way its applied by its de-facto leader. N-gate died far too soon.
- dang 2y agoOh you guys. If HN were to my liking, I promise you it would be an entirely different place. Suppressing my own like/dislike responses is where most of my energy goes when doing this job.
- slater 2y agodang, we should maybe set aside ONE day where you're allowed to just let loose and blast us all with zero suppression on your end. April 1st ...? :D /s
