Did btrfs improve recently? I tried using it in production several years ago, but was heavily disappointed regarding performance. It was not even comparable to ZFS.
- d3Xt3r 2y agobtrfs has seen improvements in almost every new kernel update — and many of these were performance related too. 6.13 for instance had a ton of performance optimisations, 6.12 had a few minor ones. In saying that, I'm unsure how it fares against ZFS, I haven't seen any recent comparative benchmarks (on kernel 6.13+) so I don't have any actual figures. Any older benchmarks would be considered irrelevant. One thing that's certain though is they btrfs has at least become good enough for it to be the de facto filesystem for many distros, such as Fedora, openSUSE and CachyOS (but Debian-based distros still stick to ext4).
