This is actually kind of a terrible article.
What she seems to be glossing over is the fact that the people displaced by prior revolutions were impoverished and traumatized and we only moved past it because those people died and new people not used to the old ways were born.
Like, she talks about Russia not getting past getting over communism and electing a dictator, and seems to not mention that the same pattern could be seen with globalization and Trump?
The problem is not an emotional problem of people getting over their fears, it’s a structural problem of having a system to take care of displaced workers. If you’re a data scientist, no amount of “learn AI” may help the fact that if we automate all of data science away, you’re just out of a job.
For people who came after the Industrial Revolution, everything was better. For those displaced by it? Everything was just worse.
