The Fortune article, "AI will take your job. Get over it," by Tatyana Mamut argues that while AI will undoubtedly change the workforce, it's not about destroying jobs but redefining valuable work, similar to how previous technological revolutions transformed society.
The author draws parallels to historical economic shifts, such as the Industrial Revolution and the transition from communism to capitalism in Russia, where resistance to change led to significant societal upheaval. The key lesson is that adapting quickly to the AI-driven economy is crucial to avoid repeating historical mistakes.
Mamut outlines three ways individuals must adapt:
Learn AI: Actively use AI tools and immerse oneself in AI-focused content.
Develop your intuition: Focus on uniquely human skills like sensing cultural shifts and anticipating human behavior, as AI excels at data analysis but lacks these abilities.
Become a performer: Prioritize roles that thrive on human energy, emotion, and real-time interaction, such as sales, live performances, and public speaking.
The article emphasizes that the future workforce isn't facing extinction but evolution. The key is to integrate AI into workflows, using it as an amplifier, and to double down on uniquely human skills that AI can't easily replicate. The author concludes that the future belongs to those who embrace AI and adapt quickly.

And speaking of the future, it’s amazing to me just how quickly people have pivoted away from at least pretending to deal with global climate change, to build more power plants for AI, because everyone thinks that’s where the money is. We’ll burn the planet to a crisp for money.
