- junon 2y ago- There are many books about programming in Rust (I own several and am reviewing one right now) - Crabs are a fandom and branding thing, I don't see the point in criticizing that. Marketing is hard, an identifiable brand mascot is a good way of going about it. Go has gophers, Zig has the lightning bolt, Java has coffee (yes, "caffeinated" was a term often used in that world) - Crates are just a name, what's the issue? - Trans folks in the Rust community in particular are some of the least annoying or threatening people and generally have the best handle on programming theory and how Rust works. I am not part of that community whatsoever but this has never been a point of friction. Even if you're not a fan of the "woke DEI agenda" as your comment suggests, Rust community members are not ones to bring it into technical discussions. So, again, begs the question, what's the point you're trying to make? - Oxidization is, again, a branding and fandom thing. This is a bad faith comment and is very much against the guidelines here on HN. Take this sort of thinking to Reddit or Twitter where it belongs.
- johnisgood 2y agoNo, he is mainly a .NET shill, not a C++ shill, IMO. :D He seems to dislike C, not sure about UNIXes in general though. He can correct me if I am wrong, of course. ...and not that I care. I am a C / Ada (with SPARK) / Forth / Factor shill.
- pjmlp 2y agoA computer nerd that hasn't their identity in the world tied up with specific technologies, thus no chains preventing from looking to both sides, and doesn't shy away from critics. If that makes me a shill for whatever technologies I happen to favour, so be it, people that think name calling changes anything should have their priorities on society revisited.
- johnisgood 2y agoI do not mind either way, to be honest.
- datadeft 2y agoI am sorry, but HN is probably the last place on Earth where you can wander off the mental plantation of single tech praiser people without much pushback. Perpetuating monocultural ideas and discouraging critical opinions is the way to create echo chambers that many online forums are poisoned with.
- Voultapher 2y agoYou're kind of inferring the inverse argument to what I pointed out. I believe in healthy discussion and along with the original creator of Rust I agree that there are plenty of things Rust didn't solve [1]. Nor do I believe that Rust is the perfect tool for all tasks. It's a good tool for a significant chunk of problems. That's where I stand. That said, equating people arguing in bad faith to any form of disagreement. Sorry here we disagree. [1] https://graydon2.dreamwidth.org/253769.html https://graydon2.dreamwidth.org/253769.html
- datadeft 2y ago> plenty of things Rust didn't solve I agree on that too. > Nor do I believe that Rust is the perfect tool for all tasks. No disagrement here either. I was just not really getting why you are attacking OP with assuming bad faith content from him immediatelly. Maybe I misread your comment.
- pjmlp 2y agoconstexpr, consteval, if constexpr, requires, auto,... are quite regular C++.
