Court Imposes over $1.6B in Penalties on a Toyota Subsidiary for Emissions Fraud

- zdragnar 2y agoWhy editorialize the title? Hino Motors is the subsidiary. The source title only adds the Toyota subsidiary bit after naming the company. So far as I saw in the page, Toyota as the parent company isn't directly responsible for the fine, nor is Toyota itself sharing the probationary period penalty. Hino itself sells commercial trucks- nothing the average reader would ever associate with the Toyota brand, or any car they would buy from Toyota.

- zdragnar 2y ago"Toyota Subsidiary" is not really shorter than "Hino Motors" is it? Toyota isn't the main character in this story. The only relevance is dubious at best, since Toyota wasn't found liable by the court. The original title only included it to add context. The title used here seeks to imply that Toyota is the central figure.
- impish9208 2y ago> "Toyota Subsidiary" is not really shorter than "Hino Motors" is it? No, but between the two included in the original title, I chose the entity that’s more recognizable. I’m sorry if I misled you, and I’ll try not to do it again.
