The entire concept of being nonpartisan strikes me as dumb. If you want an effective government, that is. The parties are far more similar than they are different. Partisan claims are therefore a) trivial and largely meaningless, b) obviously positive for everyone and impossible to politicize, or c) obviously bad for the country. The remaining issue is, I think, abortion, which has some value judgement not based on warping the framing of the issue to fit the party platform of the day.
99% of the coverage of doge's takeover still seems trapped by the concept that one of the two parties surely has some good idea about how to run the country. I'm not sure that's a viable opinion anymore.
- actionfromafar 2y agoParty A - we don't have any bright idea right now (some of us are starting to admit we haven't had any for quite a while). While we figure out what to do, at least not rip the copper wires out the walls and set fire to everything? Please? Party B - "The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."
- rbanffy 2y ago> The parties are far more similar than they are different. That was true up until Obama's second term. At that point, the GOP decided it'd go great lengths to sabotage almost anything - from blocking SCOTUS nominations to completely shutting down the government. It got worse with Trump during his first term and now, it seems like the party is afraid of its leader and does not oppose even the most blatantly illegal measures. To say they are "more similar than ever" is incomprehensible to me.
