The thing for me in Germany is, personally I don't need 5G because:
- for my use case 4g has good enough throughput and latency
- 4g is still too expensive
- 4g is not available in rural areas
- PaulHoule 2y agoThe biggest problem w/ 4G is that it is expensive because of the very close coordination between base stations (typically you're not attached to one base station but to several on the same frequency simultaneously, so you need high bandwidth between the base stations or you might have a distributed antenna network over optic fiber connected to one mega-base station.) We were told the benefit of 5G was that it would be faster, but a pure-5G network ought to be cheaper to build than a 4G network, although carriers want to position it as something you pay more for, not less for.
- JohnFen 2y agoSame for me in the US. I understand that carriers want it because it eases some of their backend problems, but it brings no benefit to me, personally.
