Ask HN: Discord vs Slack for a Startup
I asked multiple people—most YC founders told me to use Discord, a VC told me to use Microsoft Teams, and two other funds told me to use Slack.
So, what’s your take?
- Tomte 2y agoYou will face much harder decisions in your business. Are you going to ask several investors whether to hire an assistant, or rent an office, as well?

- codingdave 2y agoAsk your team. This is not a decision that will make or break your company... just pick whatever the team likes. After all, they will be using it, not your VCs or other founders.
- 3Samourai 2y agoWe do not have any employees yet. My friends and I would choose Discord, but maybe I have overlooked an incredible feature of Slack.
- Chihuahua0633 2y agoUse Slack if you need structured team communication, business integrations, and a professional workspace. Use Discord if your startup values real-time collaboration, voice chat, and a casual work culture.
