Privacy is not binary. Therefore, it is very likely that even if other people do not practice good privacy practices, practicing them already increases personal control over one's information.
It is very requirement heavy to imagine a theoretical situation where the behaviour of those around you perfectly mitigates 100% of your own digital hygiene.
