- mytailorisrich 2y agoHangzhou really gained prominence as a tech hub with Alibaba, which is inturn is because Jack Ma is both from there and went to university there (it is a top university). But Hangzhou is a very famous, historic city in China, and especially famous for its lake and surroundings. It is the end of the Grand Canal and was capital of the Southern Song until the Mongol invasion (apparently largest city in the world at the time).
