It's been a little while since I've worked in the space, but it's worth checking a newer revision as this wording may no longer be present https://developer.apple.com/accessories/Accessory-Design-Guidelines.pdf https://developer.apple.com/accessories/Accessory-Design-Gui... From a technical standpoint, there is no limitation for an accessory to implement the profile.

  Yeah, the profile supports it, but Apple doesn’t support all the implementations as outlined in the profile. I’ve been barking up this tree for nearly a decade.

      If you can produce a working proof of concept for sending sms or iMessages from a third party Bluetooth device with MAP on current iOS, I’ll follow you anywhere captain.
