You're probably right on RDNA, since I haven't done any work with it myself, but for SASS I'm reasonably confident that depbar (probably the equivalent you're thinking of) is not going to be inserted after a load from global memory. You see it for things like inter-warp long latency ops, but not within a single thread AFAICT
