A strong chilling effect by going after the author directly - no late night talk shows, podcasts, etc. My plan if I was at Macmillan? Send out the book’s Editor on tour, on the double. At this level, the Editor is well qualified to speak to the contents and integrity of the work. As they’re not bound by this ruling, it can be a useful talking point about the merit of the book - “I wouldn’t be here if Meta wasn’t embarrassed by the truth” has a nice ring to it.
