- csomar 2y agoNvidia didn't innovate into AI. Developers used their gaming cards for AI. They kinda got into that situation by pure luck. I wouldn't trust they will be able to pivot into the next big bubble if it's quite outside their area of expertise.
- est 2y agoalso crypto mining does tons of SHA256 on CUDA.
- latchkey 2y agoSHA265 hasn't been efficient on a GPU (compared with an ASIC) in over 10 years.
- akimbostrawman 2y agocrpto != only Bitcoin. Any cryptocurrency worth its salt is ASCI resistant.
- latchkey 2y agoEven ethash had ASICs. As long as there is enough financial incentive, there can always be ASICs built for cheating the system. "Any cryptocurrency worth its salt" would have that incentive.
- theshackleford 2y ago> They kinda got into that situation by pure luck. This statement is wildly inaccurate. NVIDIA made deliberate and strategic moves to dominate AI and it made them a very long time ago. They didnt fall into this yesterday by mistake.
