Google Chrome would like to access your contacts
- sohn23 14y agoWhat an asshole. Chromium's code is there for review, you know.
- rachelbythebay 14y agoThanks! Comments like this mean I'm on the right track.
- justinschuh 14y agoI disagree with the framing of the post as well, but your comment is certainly no better.

- lambada 14y agoIf I'm reading this right then they actually only want the users contact information. It's been bugging me for a while that the users information is lumped in with contacts in the normal way in most contact systems. It seems to me that perhaps this is an argument for a specific permission request specifically for just the users contact details, as opposed to the whole contact database.
- justinschuh 14y agoYep, that's exactly it. It's just populating the user's own contact information for the autofill profile. I don't think there's any other automated way to retrieve this data when a user enables autofill. Anyway, I can appreciate that a user would want to know why this is occurring, but I do take issue with the Fox News style the post used in framing the question. I mean, the answer is pretty trivially discoverable, so I think a worthwhile post would actually provide that answer. Failing that, just ask the question in an objective way. Don't use a loaded question with a thinly veiled (and false) accusation.
