Hmm... I guess that newspapers' collapse means mostly lack of deep analysis in one place; instead, you'll have to find them in many blogs, and sometimes it is hard to either find them or evaluate their credibility. There's also a personal bit. My mother used to work for a small local newspapers for many years; she's not working there anymore but somehow I felt, especially in the small communities, newspapers integrated the people and them more aware about the local events.
