That's not how any previous advancement has worked. "Work expands to fill the time saved" and all that.
- BoredPositron 2y agoWe are down in working hours per year from 3.500h in 1870 to around 1400h now.
- slater 2y agoYes, thanks to laws put in place, not because of technical progress. Come on.
- BoredPositron 2y agoWell whatever it is and if there is correlation or not. We work less now.
- joegibbs 2y agoIf 95% of the population were still farmers (not anymore due to technological progress) those laws would never have been passed, and wouldn't have meant anything if they did because you're going to starve unless you put in the gruelling hours every day ploughing fields, chopping wood, tending livestock - forever.
- test098 2y agothat coincides with industrialization and the subsequent rise of trade unions. the alternative was violence against capital.
- BoredPositron 2y agoI don’t get the argument. Hours are hours and that there is no correlation to technical advancements is an extrem position to have… but hey you are not alone.
- slater 2y agoIt's not that there's no correlation. It's that there's many, MANY other reasons before you get even close to "oh yeah, and then we invented the steam engine"

- BoredPositron 2y agoOver 200 years "shit happens"... the argument. We are still working less and the hours didn't get filled with other work.
