I enjoyed Greg Egan's Permutation City but enjoyed Diaspora even more. A Canticle for Liebowitz or Annihilation was a bit depressing. In the description of What Mad Universe, by Fredric Brown I was amused by the line "cheeky satire of classic pulp magazines" as many of the stories were cheeky satire.
