I have heard rumors that Trump is trying to basically disappear the Federal Government except for emergency handling and war fighting capabilities (which is used for peacekeeping).
I personally wouldn't mind if the fed gov was just that- handle emergencies (via funds, not an organization that has to learn a state's roads when disaster hits), and a military. Lower federal taxes to just 5% for all sales (no income portion).
I feel like after that, create mandates for states to institute new safety net programs based on additional sales taxes (not income). Then distribute the entire SSI program (its existing funds) to the states. If a person moves, the states must have a method of handling that.
There is literally no reason for me to care about the US as a government responsible to its citizens to manage and maintain 26k paintins that could be digitized and then physical assets either sold or donated to states to manage. If some state cares enough, it can take care of the paintings.
- cantrecallmypwd 2y agoA country as large and complicated as the US requires a lot of shared administrative infrastructure. Also, the US doesn't invest very much in its citizens compared to the rest of the world (20% of GDP compared to 40%). Cutting that reduces the average standard of living, future economic prosperity, impoverishes people, and shrinks the middle class. Anarchy and "rugged individualism" are as utopian fantasies as communism.

Lower federal taxes to just 5% for all sales (no income portion). Food inspection? Clean air? National parks? Air traffic control? Interstate highways? Sales tax is also regressive. Basically what you're talking about is going back to the early 1900s (and earlier): you know, the Gilded Age (the time of robber barons), when inequality was at its highest in the US.
