Apple hardware is in a good place. Even the M1 runs some decently capable models with ease. Yes, Apple Intelligence sucks, but it was a quick response to Microsoft Copilot. We’re still in the early days here. Folks don’t totally know yet what a model on a phone should be capable of. I see it becoming useful when it’s able to surf the web and do things on behalf of the user, but that’s not even on the desktop much yet.
As an example, I want an AI that I can ask, “Book me and my partner a week in Italy for under $x in the next month, with a full site-seeing itinerary, and submit vacation request with my employer.” and it’s able to research and do that with minimal validation. That would be a pretty cool thing for a phone to be able to do.
